Quick Setup Guide

This Quick Setup Guide will help you through the Registration process and properly setup your computer.

Quick Setup Guide

Step 1: Register Your Course CD-ROM Serial Number

  1. Go to www.student.connect4education.com
  2. Click Registration.
  3. Complete the Registration form and click Submit.


Step 2: Download Necessary Software

  1. The following free software is required for this OnMusic History Survey course.

    PC Users
    Macintosh Users
    *Windows Users: You do not need to install this. Most likely it's already installed on your computer.
    *Macintosh Users: You do not need to install this. Most likely it's already installed on your computer.


Step 3: CD-ROM Setup

If you are a PC user, click PC Users.

If you are a Macintosh user, clickMacintosh Users.


CD-ROM Setup for PC Users

All the multimedia resources for the course music, graphics, and interactive content are on the course CD-ROMs. Please make sure the correct CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive, and the CD-ROM Setup is done properly.

WARNING: If you do not do the CD-ROM Setup properly, you will not be able to listen to music, see pictures, or view interactive content in the quizzes, exams, and course pages.

  1. Insert OMH1 CD into the CD-ROM drive. Wait for 10 seconds.
    Windows XP users: If a new window pops up and asks "What do you want Windows to do?", click Cancel.

  2. Double-click "My Computer" icon on your desktop. If you do not have a "My Computer" icon on your deskstop, click Start button and click "My Computer."

    In the "My Computer" window, you should see OMH1, and the drive letter beside the name of the CD-ROM disk.

  3. Please write down your CD-ROM drive letter. You will need this information to complete the CD-ROM Setup process.
  4. Go to www.connect4education.org
  5. Type your Login Name and Password. Click Logon.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the course page until you see the blue Student Control Panel.

  7. Under the My Settings column, click CD-ROM Setup.
  8. Make sure the Macintosh CD-ROM Name field is blank and type your computer's CD-ROM Drive letter in the Windows Drive field.

  9. Click Setup.
  10. You should receive a confirmation that your CD-ROM setup has been changed.

IMPORTANT: You will need to do the CD-ROM Setup whenever you switch to a different computer.


CD-ROM Setup for Macintosh Users

All the multimedia resources for the course music, graphics, and interactive content are on the course CD-ROMs. Please make sure the correct CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive, and the CD-ROM Setup is done properly.

WARNING: If you do not do the CD-ROM Setup properly, you will not be able to listen to music, see pictures, or view interactive content in the quizzes, exams, and course pages.

  1. Insert OMH1 CD into the CD-ROM drive. Wait for 10 seconds.

  2. You should see the OMH1 CD icon on your desktop. If you do not see OMH1 CD, take out the CD and re-insert it.
  3. Go to www.connect4eduction.org
  4. Type your Login Name and Password. Click Logon.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the course page until you see the blue Student Control Panel.

  6. Under the My Settings column, click CD-ROM Setup.
  7. Make sure the Windows Drive field is blank and type OMH1 in the Macintosh CD-ROM Name field.

  8. If you are using Mac OS X, checkmark "Check this box if you are using OSX."
  9. Click Setup.
  10. You should receive an confirmation that says "Your CD-ROM setup has been changed: OMH."

IMPORTANT: You will need to do the CD-ROM Setup whenever you switch CDs.


Step 4: Test Computer Setup

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the course page until you see the blue Student Control Panel.

  2. Click Detailed Index.
  3. Under Class 3, click Secular Music in the Middle Ages.
  4. Allow the page to fully load.
  5. On the left hand side of the course page you should see the picture of Troubadour Context. Do you see it?

    xxxxxIf you see the picture, your CD-ROM Setup is set properly.
    xxxxxIf you do not see it, you will need to redo Step 2: CD-ROM Setup.

    NOTE: Do not go to #6 if you do not see the picture of Troubadour Context.

  6. To the right of the Troubadour Context picture is a music link highlighted in blue. Click "sacred music" music link. RealPlayer should open and automatically play the audio. If Realplayer does not open, please make sure you download RealPlayer. Free RealPlayer is available at www.real.com.

At this point, you should be able to view the picture of Troubadour and listen to the "sacred music" piece.

WARNING: Do not do any course work until you can view images and listen to music pieces. If you do not do the CD-ROM Setup properly, you will not be able to listen to music, see pictures, or view interactive content in the quizzes, exams, and course pages.
